“Supporting pets through their senior years is one of the most meaningful things we do,” says Dr. Sarah Grier. “It’s about keeping them comfortable, happy, and surrounded by love.”

As pets age, their health needs change – but with attentive, preventative care, they can stay comfortable and active for years to come. At Indian Peaks Veterinary Hospital, we partner with you to anticipate changes, manage health issues early, and keep your companion comfortable every step of the way.
Our goal is simple: to make your pet’s golden years as comfortable as possible while giving you the confidence and knowledge to make informed decisions about their care.
Senior pets benefit from more frequent checkups – typically recommended every six months – so we can track subtle changes in weight, appetite, mobility, or behavior. During each visit, we perform a thorough physical assessment, review your pet’s health history, and discuss any new concerns you’ve noticed at home.
We tailor diagnostic testing for each pet’s age and health status, including:
Detecting changes early allows us to begin treatment before symptoms progress, helping your pet stay comfortable and active for longer.
No two senior pets age alike. Our veterinarians develop individualized plans that reflect your pet’s current health, activity level, and temperament. We’ll discuss nutrition, mobility support, pain management, and realistic at-home strategies to maintain comfort between visits.
You’ll leave each appointment with a clear understanding of your pet’s current health and the next steps to keep them feeling their best. Whether that means adjusting a medication, adding joint support, or changing diet, our team provides practical guidance you can easily follow at home.

Chronic conditions are common in older pets, but they don’t have to limit happiness. Our team designs care plans that control symptoms, ease discomfort, and let your pet enjoy daily life.
We’ll help you recognize early signs of discomfort so adjustments can be made quickly, keeping your pet comfortable and helping you avoid unexpected emergencies.
Senior care is a partnership built on trust. We take the time to explain each finding and recommendation in clear, simple terms, ensuring you feel confident and informed when making decisions for your pet.
Our team values open, ongoing communication – we’re always available to answer follow-up questions or provide clarification between visits. You can expect every appointment to be calm, unhurried, and centered on your pet’s comfort.
Together, we’ll help your companion enjoy their later years with dignity, ease, and the same love they’ve given you all their life.
When a pet’s quality of life declines, our veterinarians provide clear, compassionate guidance to help you decide when euthanasia may be the kindest choice. We approach every case with empathy and respect for both you and your companion.

After a lifetime of love, honoring your pet’s memory should feel personal and dignified. We work with a trusted local cremation service that shares our same commitment and values.
You may choose between private cremation, where your pet is cremated individually and their ashes are returned to you in an urn, or communal cremation, which provides a respectful farewell without ashes returned. Both options are handled by our long-standing cremation partner, known for their professionalism and sensitivity.
Following your pet’s passing, our team coordinates every step on your behalf. Your pet remains in our care until our cremation partner arrives for transport. Once cremation is complete, ashes from private services are returned to us, typically within one to two weeks, for you to pick up at your convenience. You can rest assured that your pet is treated with the same respect and dignity throughout the entire process.
To honor your pet’s life, we offer clay or ink paw prints. These keepsakes provide a comforting way to remember your companion and keep their memory close.
For families who prefer their pet’s passing to take place at home, we can provide recommendations for trusted in-home euthanasia providers in the Boulder area. When you’re ready, you’ll contact the company of your choice directly, and they will guide you through the process, including cremation or aftercare arrangements if desired.
We’re here to help you and your pet every step of the way. Whether you need guidance for senior wellness, support with chronic conditions, or compassionate end-of-life care, our team is just a call or click away.
